Asheville, North Carolina-based roots artists Anya Hinkle (vocals, guitar) and Billy Cardine (Dobro) team up for an intimate exploration of acoustic music rooted in the sounds of Appalachia and seasoned by their travels around the globe. Following international tours in Japan, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, and throughout the US and Hawai’i, Hinkle and Cardine were recipients of the prestigious USArtists International grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to bring their surprisingly dynamic range of styles and influences to France in 2025 with their worldgrass band Tanasi.
Originally from the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, Anya Hinkle's music is steeped in the tones of folk and mountain music, featuring award-winning songwriting, vibrant musicianship, and striking honesty. Called “a burgeoning force behind the Appalachian roots revival” by PopMatters and “one of roots music’s gems” by No Depression, Hinkle is a winner of both the USA Songwriting Competition and MerleFest’s Chris Austin Songwriting Competition. Her latest album, Oceania (2024, Red Parlor Records), was produced by veteran Irish producer Kevin Moloney (U2, Sinéad O’Connor) and features Celtic guitar legend John Doyle alongside slide guitar master Billy Cardine.
Billy Cardine is recognized as a pioneer of slide guitar, known for taking the Dobro into uncharted genres. His unique voice on all things slide has led him to collaborate with Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, world-renowned Edgar Meyer, and dobro king Jerry Douglas, who calls Cardine “an amazing Dobro player… fluent in everything that I do, and everybody that has come before.” Cardine has performed at the Kennedy Center, Grand Ole Opry and Carnegie Hall.
